About Us

The East Troy Community Band was brought back to life in 2002 by Jay and Heidi Huenink. In five short years the membership grew from 22 members to its current size of 50 musicians. Jay served as conductor of the band for 20 seasons, until his retirement in 2022. Congratulations, Jay!

Our free summer series, "Thursday Nights on The Square" includes regular band concerts and guest groups on the East Troy Village Square.

We are excited to announce our current band director, Nick Bertino, is back for his second season!
Nick Bertino is the current high school band director for the East Troy School District. At the high school, he leads the concert band, marching band, pep band, jazz band, and pit orchestra. Alongside his performing groups, Nick teaches music theory and jazz history in general music classes for all High School students. At his previous position, Nick led a 5th-12th grade band program in Pittsville, WI from 2019 to June of 2022. During his time in the Pittsville school district, he successfully rebuilt the band program by creating a drumline, jazz band, and jazz combos that are still maintained in the Pittsville band department. Nick Bertino earned his bachelor's degree of instrumental music education at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. During his time in Whitewater, he studied clarinet with Dr. Christian Ellenwood who is a prestigious clarinet player and composer. After college, Nick performed with many community bands while teaching. He played the clarinet with the Marshfield Hub City Winds, Marshfield Hub City Orchestra, Marshfield Woodwind Quintet, and the Reedsburg Community Band.
Nick looks forward to continuing his career as a conductor and musician throughout his life. He is inspired by the interpretation of music and how it can affect each one of our lives.

Welcome back, Nick!
